You guys did such an aweseome job coming up with "Summer Activities," I thought I would open up our blog conversation for you to post comments, questions, and ideas about anything pertaining to mentoring and your relationship with your mentee. This forum is a great place to exchange ideas, give advice, and to ask those questions you've been dying to ask more seasoned mentors. :-) Please do not use the real name of your mentee in any of your posts on this blog. Summer Activities

We are currently in the process of planning our summer activities for the Fighting Back Mentor Program, and I am wondering what you and your mentee would like to do this summer?

We raised 4,836 Mentor Hours during our 11th Annual "Mission for Mentors" Telethon!!

April "Mentor of the Month"

In an effort to recognize outstanding mentors, we have established "Mentor of the Month."

Each month we will recognize one mentor who has gone above and beyond the call of duty to make a difference in the life of their mentee.

This month's outstanding mentor is Mary Ann Helman.

Mary Ann mentors a 6th grader at Cleveland Elementary and has been with her mentee for two and a half years.

In addition to mentoring, Mary Ann is also a member of our Mentor Task Force where she has been instrumental in creating a variety of opportunities for our students, including the recent concert with local reggae band, Jah Bone.

As Mentor of the Month, Mary Ann will be receiving two tickets to the Santa Barbara Symphony. Great job, Mary Ann!! Keep up the good work!

11th Annual "Mission for Mentors" Telethon

Who: The Fighting Back Mentor Program

What: Our 11th Annual "Mission for Mentors" Telethon

When: Tuesday, April 8th from 5-8 p.m.

Where: Filmed at Center Court at Paseo Nuevo Mall to be aired live on KEYT Channel 3

Why: We are hoping to recruit enough new mentors to meet the needs of the children currently on our waiting list. Please help us in this endeavor! :-)
